Setup Hardware Wallet for L2 Through MetaMask - Polygon (MATIC)

Before we start, we strongly recommend using Firefox due to connectivity issues between Chrome/Brave and Metamask Download and install the Firefox browser. Then install MetaMask to Firefox.


Once you create or import a wallet to MetaMask, follow this guide to connect the Polygon Mainnet to the MetaMask web wallet.




Accessing Polygon (MATIC) account(s) on Ledger


  • Make sure Ledger Live is closed before proceeding with the steps.

  • Connect the Ledger hardware wallet and open the Ethereum app (ETH).

  • Open the MetaMask wallet, click on the circle icon on the right, then select Connect Hardware Wallet, select Ledger, and click Continue.

  • After the loading icon, a list of Polygon account addresses appears. Choose one and click on Unlock


  • The Ledger hardware wallet will load and you will see that it's now connected to MetaMask, you are now able to transact with crypto assets on Polygon.





Accessing Polygon (MATIC) account(s) on Trezor


  • Make sure Trezor Suite is closed before proceeding with the steps.

  • Connect the Trezor hardware wallet.

  • Open the MetaMask wallet, click on the circle icon on the right, then select Connect Hardware Wallet, select Trezor, and click Continue.


  • Click on Allow once for this session to connect to the MetaMask web wallet.


  • Click on Export to export the public key.


  • Create a Passphrase then click on Enter.


  • After the loading icon, a list of Polygon account addresses appears. Choose one and click on Unlock


  • The Trezor hardware wallet will load and you will see that it's now connected to MetaMask, you are now able to transact with crypto assets on Polygon.
