Account Locks for Unpaid Backorder and Auction Dues

Modified on: Fri, 8 May, 2026 at 7:47 PM

When you successfully catch a backorder or win an auction using your overdraft, the cost is debited from your Account Balance. If that brings your balance below zero, you have a limited window to settle it before restrictions are placed on your account.

The 7-day repayment window

Once a successful backorder or auction win creates a negative Account Balance, you have 7 days to add funds and bring your balance back to zero (or above).

If the balance isn't cleared within 7 days:

  • Your account may be suspended (sign-in locked)
  • Domain pushes and outbound transfers are blocked for the duration of the negative balance

The clock starts the moment the catch or auction win is processed — not when you receive the email notification.

How to pay back a negative balance

  1. Sign in to your Unstoppable Domains account
  2. Go to Account Balance in your dashboard
  3. Add funds via credit card, crypto, or another supported payment method
  4. Once your balance is zero or positive, all restrictions are lifted automatically

Holds are not debts

A hold (placed when you submit a backorder) looks similar to a debit in your Account Balance page, but it is not a charge and has no repayment deadline. Holds are released automatically if a backorder misses.

Only a debit from a successful catch or auction win creates the 7-day repayment obligation.

Dashboard alerts

When your Account Balance goes negative from a backorder or auction, a banner will appear at the top of your dashboard showing the outstanding amount and a countdown to the deadline. The banner links directly to your Account Balance page where you can add funds.

You'll also receive an email notification, but the dashboard banner is the most reliable way to track the deadline.

Domain push restrictions during an overdraft

While your Account Balance is negative, you cannot push (transfer ownership of) domains to another user on Unstoppable Domains. This restriction applies to your entire account — not just the domains associated with the debt. It is lifted as soon as your balance is settled.

Frequently asked questions

My account was locked — what do I do?

Add funds to your Account Balance to bring it to $0 or above. Your account will be unlocked automatically once the balance is cleared. If you're unable to add funds, contact support.

I received an email about a catch but didn't realize I owed money. Can I get an extension?

Reach out to our support team as soon as possible. We review these on a case-by-case basis.

Does this apply if I used Account Balance to pay, not overdraft?

No. The 7-day rule only applies when a catch or auction win creates a negative Account Balance (i.e., you went into overdraft). If your balance stays at or above zero after a catch, there's nothing to pay back.
